Kate Abbott MSc Musculoskeletal Medicine, MCSP, HCPC
Kate graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1999 and went on to gain clinical experience at the Hammersmith Hospital, London and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London.
She worked in many areas including: complex hip and knee replacements, spinal injuries, bone tumours and within a specialist multi disciplinary chronic pain team managing patients with complex long standing musculoskeletal conditions.
Whilst at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, she had the opportunity to work within the upper limb unit and developed her shoulder speciality. Their case load included: the management of patients after significant shoulder trauma, nerve damage, upper limb surgery and shoulder instability (including repeated dislocation).
Since moving to Derbyshire, Kate has continued her special interest in shoulders and works closely with orthopaedic upper limb consultants in Chesterfield and Sheffield. She is also a member of the British Elbow & Shoulder Society (BESS).
Kate worked within the NHS in Derbyshire until 2011 and worked her way up to the role of Extended Scope Practitioner. This allowed her to develop a diagnostic role - referring for appropriate investigations such as X-ray and MRI. She trained in corticosteroid injection therapy in 2007 and completed her Masters degree in Musculoskeletal Medicine in 2015.
Kate regularly uses acupuncture and has been a member of The British Medical Acupuncture Society since 2004.
She has worked privately since 2005 and became a Partner at Bakewell Physiotherapy Group in 2011. She enjoys being part of such a skilled, dynamic and friendly team that have formed strong relationships with local GP surgeries.
